Has been engaged in business since 1985 as a garments manufacturer and exporter. A successful businessman involved in a diverse and wide range of businesses including garments, shipping, project management and consultancy, Khandaker Mashiuzzaman (Romel) is also the Chairman and Managing Director of Peoples Group.
The son of Khandaker Asaduzzaman MP, former President of Dhaka Club Ltd. and former Finance Secretary to the Government of Bangladesh, Khandaker Mashiuzzaman obtained a Bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Finance from the University of Dhaka in 1984.
Romel is serving as the President of the Bangladesh Petroleum Tanker Owners Association (BPTOA), is an Executive Committee member of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and is a Director of ICLDS (Institute of Conflict, Law and Development Studies). In addition to being awarded by The Honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina, as a BATEXPO Awardee in 2009 for involvement and development of Bangladesh’s garments industry, he was also declared a Commercially Important Person (CIP) in 2010, 2012 and 2013 for his contribution to trade and industry.
Romel’s previous roles include Director of the FBCCI (Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry), Director of Sonali Bank Limited, Director of the International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB), Director of the Infrastructure Investment Facilitation Company (IIFC), Vice President of the Bangladesh Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Chairman of the Management Co-Ordination Committee, BGMEA. He was also a Founder Director of the Exporters Association of Bangladesh.
Furthermore, as a member of Child Labor Standing Committee of the BGMEA, Romel was involved in the negotiation on child labor issues with the US Government, ILO, UNICEF and other international agencies, which ultimately led to the signing of the MOU on elimination of child labor from the garments sector in 1995.
Completed his Undergraduate studies from Brunel University, UK, in 2012 and, as of 2016, holds a Master’s from Monash University, Melbourne, in International Business. Upon completion of his studies, he joined Peoples Group to focus on business development. Bishal has successfully completed a Pilot Project on treating arsenic contaminated groundwater in Jessore and Khulna, and is hoping to implement this technology all over Bangladesh; Germany’s Harbauer GmbH partnered with one of Peoples Group’s concerns in this project. Bishal is also engaged in providing tower cranes from NFT UAE for the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Expansion Project, a turnkey project lead by Aviation Dhaka Consortium (ADC) and funded by JICA.
Completed his Bachelor’s of Civil and Infrastructure Engineering (Honours) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in Melbourne, Australia, in 2017.
Earlier in his career, Bikash held diverse roles as a Civil Engineer in both the public and private sectors in Melbourne, Australia. He has provided technical advice and approval for various road and cycling safety infrastructure projects to the Victorian State Government’s Major Road Projects Victoria (MRPV), Level Crossing Removal Projects (LXRP), and local government councils, amongst other government and private stakeholders. Bikash has been involved in a variety of small- to large-scale projects – ranging in value from $25,000 to $3 billion – and is a fierce advocate of AI and Blockchain integration into the Bangladeshi economy.
Has been studying Accounting and Finance at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Aiming to be done by the end of 2021, Arshad is further planning to pursue a Master’s degree in Political Science and Data Analytics.
